Webinar Recap Pushing the Boundaries: Emerging Global Healthcare Needs for a Work-From-Anywhere Culture
Earlier this month, GeoBlue® hosted a webinar on how employees’ expectations to work from locations outside the U.S. has provided a new dimension to the evolving remote work trend. We also discussed employer readiness to meet these expectations.
Key takeaways
- Employers should assess the location, duration and activities of employees intending to work independently outside the U.S. It’s also important to review existing international travel coverage for possible gaps and limitations.
- Employee health benefit requirements for the globally mobile are different than those of the U.S.-centric workforce. Relying on a domestic health plan can create undue stress and financial and administrative burden for employees and employers, since domestic health plans do not translate seamlessly abroad.
- Mental health support is also a key consideration because globally mobile employees can feel isolated and disconnected. In addition, services such as a robust mobile app that can connect employees to care and global telemedicine are important to protect the productivity gains that remote work offers.
- Employers are implementing a range of solutions—from employer- sponsored benefits that allow for leisure travel coverage to be added to an existing travel medical policy to promoting discounted voluntary travel medical plans that employees can purchase on their own.
