Working abroad is exciting, a great chance to learn about a new country and culture and to grow in your job. But it can also feel lonely sometimes. If you feel anxious, homesick, stressed or lonely, you are not alone. Many people feel this way, but these feelings can be amplified when working abroad.

In the United States, May is Mental Health Awareness Month. It's a good time to think about these feelings and talk about any problems you have. Talking about your struggles can help others too. When we talk about mental health, it helps to break down the stigma. Not sure how to talk about mental health—for yourself or someone you care about? This article can help you start the conversation and support someone who may be having a hard time.

Supporting Your Mental Health Anywhere

International Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services, offered by GeoBlue®, are here to support you and your family through different life events. We offer short-term, solution-focused counseling to help with emotional, practical and physical challenges. Below are some common issues that can affect your health, work and personal life. Often, these areas are connected and can influence each other. Stress from work can impact your home life, or health struggles can affect your ability to focus and stay motivated. We’re here to help you manage these challenges in a way that works for you.

Emotional:
  • Workplace stress, conflict or change
  • Anxiety*
  • Loss of a loved one
  • Traumatic event
  • Caregiver stress
*If you struggle with anxiety, there are wellness resources to help you. A new seminar, "Anxiety Unmasked," is available on the Wellness Portal and can teach you how to identify your triggers and manage anxiety better.

Practical:

  • Financial and legal help
  • Expecting a child
  • Eldercare and childcare
Physical:
  • Health risk assessment
  • Nutrition
  • Exercise plans
  • Healthy lifestyle
